Fresno has some of the most creative minds we know of. Every first and third Thursday of the month, there is an event calls Art Hop. Art Hop is hold in Downtown Fresno and allows many artists of all sorts to come and display their creations.
“I really don’t like to show my things off,” said Dihnai Bumna, “I just do it cause I like it.”
Dihnai Bumna lived in Fresno up until he decided to attend college at San Diego State.
“I think one thing that sets me apart is that I’m broke compared to most photographers,” said Bumna, “so I make up with what I have and figure out ways to make things work.”
As a second year student right now, Bumna is majoring in Kinesiology, but is in the process of switching over to graphic design.
“I thought I wanted to do physical therapy but I realized I have no interest in it,” said Bumna. “I actually enjoy graphic design even if it doesn’t seem as stable as physical therapy, career wise.”
“Dihnai has always been one of my favorite photographers, and people due to his potential,” said Daniel Marquez.
Marquez had known Bumna for six years, they met in high school when Marquez was playing on the football team and Bumna was photographing for the yearbook.
Bumna’s interest in photography started when he was in high school, at first he wasn’t too interested or know too much about it. Although he has always been doing film and making video of him and his friends skateboarding in middle school.
“We use to do shoots for fun or just in his garage,” said long time friend, Xully Lor.
Lor and Bumna met in middle school and since then, they had been very close friend.
“He has always incorporated his own personal touches on his photography,” said Lor. “He likes to try different things and isn’t afraid to experiment.”
Unlike most photographers, Bumna said he doesn’t really plan out his shoot or anything, he just goes with it and plan along the way and see what he can capture.
“Dihnai is a goofy dude and his photography is goofy, playful, and colorful,” said Marquez, “he lets his personality show in his photos.”
Although Bumna is now in San Diego, Marquez said that Bumna is one of his close friends and would love to have him photograph him and his clothing brand whenever he is back in town.
The photography industry is quite challenging to get into and keep up with because there are so many talented photographers out there.
Lor said, “sometimes we’d have to make our own props because he didn’t have the right equipment, so I think that really shows how much he enjoyed photography and how invested he was.”
Bumna said he does not think he will be doing professional photography unless he was given the opportunity with a good pay.
“Even though I do it for a passion, you need money to get by,” said Bumna. “Other than that I do it for hobby to make pictures I like to see.”
Lor and Marquez both want to see what Bumna can do in the future. They both believe he has a lot of talents because he is always coming up with something new for everyone to see.
“I do client work here and there because I need the money sometime, but I’d rather do creative work than posed shoots all the time,” said Bumna.
